Linda Sweet Marks has over twenty five years of comprehensive legal experience- first as a successful corporate finance attorney, then as an educational lawyer. Additionally, she has worked in a dispute resolution program affiliated with mediating and arbitrating civil cases in a state superior court. She has been admitted to the bars of New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Washington D.C. and Maryland.
For the last fifteen years, Linda has dedicated herself to advocating on behalf of the legal rights of children. She is currently of counsel at the Education Law Center, the premier nonprofit education law organization in New Jersey. She is a member of the New Jersey Special Education Practitioners Group, the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates and the New Jersey Coalition for Special Education Funding Reform. Formerly, she has been a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) representing neglected and abused children and served on the Child Placement Review Panel of Mercer County, New Jersey overseeing the care and placement of children living in foster care. While at the Education Representation Project of Ocean-Monmouth Legal Services of New Jersey, she legally represented parents and children in an array of education matters including special education, discipline, early intervention services, bullying, truancy and school residency disputes.
As a mother of a child with learning differences, Linda understands firsthand the struggles of children with special needs and the frustrations experienced by them and their families on a daily basis. As a lawyer, she has the research, advocacy and negotiation skills necessary to be effective with schools. Further, as a former mediator, she has the dispute resolution skills to do so in a collaborative, cost effective and timely manner. Linda offers her advocacy services because she believes that it is important for every child to obtain the appropriate educational services so that he or she is successful in the classroom. Should a family be unable to reach an agreement with a school, Linda Sweet Marks can direct the family to the attorney that would be best qualified to provide legal representation.
